Bio

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Abdul Ghafoor Liwal is a distinguished figure with a profound literature, journalism, and diplomacy background. Educated at globally recognized institutions, he holds a PhD in Persian literature from Allameh Tabataba'i University and a Master's in Pashto from Kabul University. Additionally, he enriched his academic journey as a Humphrey Fellow at the University of Maryland, College Park, focusing on journalism, literature, and politics.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Liwal has served Afghanistan in varied capacities. Notably, he held the role of Ambassador to Iran and advised the President on Borders & Tribal Affairs. His directorial tenure at the Regional Studies Center of Afghanistan and his contribution to the Presidential Office in cultural and social affairs underline his commitment to Afghanistan’s socio-cultural development.

With a solid foundation in journalism, Mr. Liwal was associated with the Institute for War and Peace Reporting and Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, showcasing his dedication to free and transparent media. His prolific writing includes 28 published books across genres such as poetry, politics, and sociology, accompanied by over 200 articles in various magazines and newspapers.

Beyond his primary roles, Mr. Liwal has been an active force in Afghanistan's academic and cultural spheres. He has taught the Pashto language, created scripts for Afghan radio and TV, and remained an active member of the Poets and Writers Association of Afghanistan.

Frequently sought after for his insights, he has participated in numerous national and international conferences, discussing the geopolitical and cultural dynamics of the Afghan region, making him an invaluable contributor to discussions on media, research, and culture.
